Arteta: Arsenal wins have not changed January transfer ploy

Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal’s two wins on the bounce will not change their plans in the January transfer window.

Arsenal were 15th in the Premier League and winless in seven at Christmas before victories over Chelsea and Brighton.

They are now nine points clear of the bottom three, looking up the table rather than down.

Asked if the back-to-back wins would affect the urgency to make moves in the coming transfer window, Arteta replied: “No, the last few results won’t change our approach to the window.”

One of the players heavily linked with a move to the Emirates is Real Madrid star Isco, who is surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.

The Arsenal boss was asked specifically about the likelihood of signing the wantaway playmaker but added: “Obviously we cannot talk about individual players.”

And it appears Isco has opted to join Sevilla rather than moving to the Premier League.

The Gunners’ main creative influence this season has been Bukayo Saka, who once again proved to be the difference as Arsenal overcame Brighton on Tuesday.

But Arteta is thought to be keen for more creativity to come from central areas, rather than the focus purely coming from wide.
