Arsenal eye £28m Poch favourite as cheaper Zaha alternative

Arsenal have identified Monaco winger Keita Balde as a potential alternative to priority target Wilfried Zaha.

Despite their restricted budget, Arsenal are interested in signing £80m-rated Zaha from Crystal Palace.

The player is thought to have ‘pleaded’ to join his boyhood club, but Arsenal are way short of being able to finance the deal.

The Gunners are therefore looking elsewhere, with Le 10 Sport suggesting Balde had the sort of ‘profile’ that ‘seduces’ the north London side earlier this week.

Sky Sports News have followed up on that link, with their sources suggesting Arsenal ‘are monitoring’ the forward with a view to a potential deal.

The 24-year-old ‘is available for between £25m and £28m,’ having been deemed surplus to requirements by Monaco.

Balde spent this past season on loan at Inter Milan, where he scored just five goals in 29 appearances.

But his relatively cheap price, his versatility and a handful of promising performances for Senegal at the African Cup of Nations has piqued Arsenal’s interest in a player Mauricio Pochettino really bloody loves.
