We get a quick vignette showing the history of Cody and his upcoming match with Sammy Guevara. “This is the biggest match of my life. Not just my career, but my life” – Sammy Guevara
SAMMY GUEVARA vs. CODY
Cody comes out first, out from underneath the stage, alongside his wife Brandi Rhodes. “Wrestling has more than one royal family….” Cody has crazy energy and has an incredulous look on his face as he gets an incredible ovation. Man this crowd is JACKED. The crowd chants for Cody as he takes it all in! Up next is the BEST EVER, Sammy Guevara, coming out in full panda gear, looking as arrogant as ever.
The crowd is heavily behind Cody as the bell rings. Collar and elbow tie up to start the match, and the two break. Sammy trash talks Cody as the crowd chants “Sammy Sucks.” We get some chain wrestling and Sammy is too fast, so Cody rolls to the outside. Sammy lays in the middle of the ring and tells Cody to bring it. Cody gets back in the ring and the two are face to face again. Cody teases a test of strength, but gets a back waist lock. Sasmmy with the go behind and pushes Cody off the ropes. He backflips over Cody and then nails him with a dropkick. He follows it up with a reverse rolling thunder moonsault and he goes for the cover, but Cody kicks out.
Both men up, and Cody gets the headlock takeover and Sammy fights up. He gets out and slaps Cody in the face, which has Cody going under and smacking Sammy in the face. He locks in the figure 4 on Guevara as the referees put over Sammy Guevara’s channel on YouTube. Sammy makes it to the ropes fairly easily, but Cody is back on top of Sammy, wrenching the arm of Sammy. He hits Sammy with a forearm to the back, then puts him in the corner and starts the chops.
Sammy fights back with some chops, but Cody gets the best of the chop fest. Cody picks up Sammy in a hanging vertical suplex, making the blood rush to the head of Sammy, before slamming him down to the mat. He goes for the cover, but Sammy kicks out at two. He proceeds to do some pushups, showing a bit of arrogance himself. Sammy responds with a spinning back kick to the face, and then Sammy sends him off the ropes. Cody springboards off the second rope and delivers a nice cutter to Sammy. He goes for the cover, but Sammy kicks out at two.
Cody Irish whips Sammy to the corner, but Sammy reverses and Cody goes hard into the corner. Sammy goes after Cody, but Cody pushes Sammy to the outside. Brandi starts to trash talk Cody on the outside as Cody revs up for a suicide dive! He pulls Brandi into the way and Cody goes crashing into Brandi, who flies into the barricade! Sammy takes advantage and pushes Cody into the ring post and then pushes him into the ring. He gets up to the top and looks to hit a splash, but Cody moves out of the way. Sammy lands on his feet, and then hits a shooting star on Cody.
Sammy goes off the ropes as the ref has her back turned, and it looks like Brandi nails Sammy in the face! Cody takes advantage and puts him on the top rope and follows it up with a reverse avalanche suplex!! Cody goes for the cover…..1……..2……Sammy kicks out! Cody doesn’t know what to do! He goes up to the top himself, but Sammy gets sudden energy as he jumps to the top rope and hits a Spanish Fly to Cody from the top!
Sammy goes back up top and looks to hit a shooting star press, but Cody gets his knees up and surprises Sammy with a rollup! 1…………2…………3!!
Winner: Cody
After the match, Tony Schiavone gets in the ring to interview Cody…but Sammy Guevara wants none of it. He’s heated, but then extends his hand, and Cody shakes it. While they’re shaking hands, CHRIS JERICHO ATTACKS CODY! Sammy wants none of it and he rolls to the outside and leaves and Jericho decimates Cody repeatedly, by first hitting him with the AEW championship, then putting him through chairs. Ouch
