Dior shows pre-collection in Japan
This week Dior presented its Esprit Tokyo Autumn/Winter 15 collection, its
first ever pre-collection catwalk show in Japan.
The show took place in a sumo wrestling arena, and when asked ‘why Tokyo?’
Sidney Toledo, Dior CEO commented: “We think Japan is a key country for
luxury and fashion. We just renewed our store in Omotesando, and we have
many flagship stores here.”
There were no kimonos or other references to Japanese culture in the show,
which was more about Dior’s vocabulary. “I tried to imagine a woman who was
very much into the language of Dior,” Simons said, “but she also has her
garden, and she has her boyfriend with a motorcycle in the city, or she’s
with her kids by the sea, or out with her dogs.”
There were shift dresses, fur-lined tunics or sweeping silver leather
coats. Sequin-knit tank tops were worn over wideleg trousers, tweed and
knitted dresses were teamed with high polo necks.
