Klopp issues update on Salah’s ‘not real injury’

Jurgen Klopp says that Mo Salah has to have his ankle regularly drained of fluid but it is “not a real injury”.

The Egyptian has suffered with an ankle problem since being the victim of a wild tackle from Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury last month.

Salah missed the disappointing 1-1 draw with Manchester United but then returned to score against Tottenham last weekend. He has scored five Premier League goals this season – and makes our perfect team of the season so far – but xG statistics suggest he should have scored more.

Klopp expects him to face Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon despite not training with his teammates for much of the week.

“He should be fine. He has had to do his individual stuff but he will be in training today (Friday),” Klopp said.

“I think it is more really annoying – for him, not me – the fact that the injury always has a bit of fluid in, and he has to deal with it, we get it out and it comes back, and stuff like that.

“But this is not a real injury in this sense, so I’ve heard (from the physios), so he should be fine.”
