When the Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Pakistan on October 14 for her five-day royal tour with Prince William, she did so wearing a turquoise tunic dress by Catherine Walker that closely resembled one Princess Diana wore when she visited the country in 1996.

The following day, Kate Middleton stepped out in a similarly colourful look that made headlines for a different reason. Said look, which was a periwinkle blue classic kameez with trousers and a chiffon scarf known as a dupatta, designed by Pakistani fashion designer Maheen Khan, was worn by the royal during a visit to Margalla Hills National Park.

The classic kameez proved to be a crowd favourite, with many royal watchers scanning the internet to find out the name of the designer behind the outfit, which the duchess wore while joining children in a series of activities that served to showcase the country’s effort to meet sustainable development goals.

Later that day, while visiting the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, at his official residence, Middleton stepped out in another look from the designer. Although the green tunic she wore was by Catherine Walker, the white trousers she paired it with were by Maheen Khan.

“I stock my clothes at O’nitaa in London and that’s where the Duchess’ style team first spotted them,” Khan told Images, giving the publication a rare insight into a royal stylist’s process. “They are a very savvy team of young stylists and they picked up some clothes to show them to the Duchess and then reached out to me.”

Adding that the style team selected one look from the rack and requested a series of bespoke designs, Khan shared: “I signed a nondisclosure agreement which meant that I could only talk about it when they allowed me to. I feel that the Duchess has a very classy, elegant personal style and I created my designs along those lines.”

On top of that, the Pakistani designer told Images that order requests for the dupatta designed for Middleton are already coming.
