Historic Gauntlet Match A Huge Win For This Week’s WWE Raw Viewership
This week’s WWE Raw was highlighted by a history making seven-man Gauntlet match, featuring Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns vs Elias vs John Cena vs The Miz vs Braun Strowman vs Finn Balor.
The near two hour match made history as not only the longest in WWE Raw history, but it featured the longest amount of time spent in a match by a WWE star, as Seth Rollins lasted a whopping 65 minutes.
According to ShowBuzz Daily, this week’s edition of WWE Raw averaged 3.382 million viewers, up from last week’s 3.105 million viewership average. The show also featured a six-woman tag team main event, featuring the six competitors in this weekend’s WWE Elimination Chamber match.
Below is the hourly breakdown for this week’s WWE Raw viewership:
-The first hour averaged 3.518 million viewers
-The second hour averaged 3.509 million viewers
-The final hour averaged 2.821 million viewers.
Viewership holding steady in the second hour is a good sign that the long Gauntlet match did not bother viewers, and kept them watching the show, but as has been the trend recently the third hour saw another steep WWE Raw viewership decline.
In fact, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, noted the following about the Raw viewership:
The key in evaluating was both how well the first hour did, which was far above what it would have been expected to do, as well as how well hour two, after the two big matches, maintained, which was also far better than it would have been expected to do.
It was a huge victory for proponents of long matches on television and also likely shocked a lot of people.
This week’s WWE Raw once again ranked #1 in overall viewership for the night.
