There is something about watching a ballet dancer expertly execute a jeté or perfectly perform a pirouette during a ballet performance that never fails to thrill and delight each and every member of the audience. The grace, beauty and sheer athletic ability of ballet dancers is a sight to behold.

In Australia, we are lucky to have world-class ballet company, The Australian Ballet, to bring this kind of magic to audiences. And, the company’s upcoming ballet, Sylvia, looks set to be one of their most exciting yet.

According to The Australian Ballet, the rarely-performed ballet Sylvia is “an epic journey, combining the stories of three superheroines in all the splendour of Ancient Greece.” The superheroines of this story include the goddess Artemis, Sylvia the nymph and Pschye, three characters who “navigate desire and deception in the realm of short-tempered gods and fantastical creatures”.

Set to Léo Delibes’s enchanting score, the ballet shines the spotlight on these fabulous female characters and is sure to charm the audience at every twirl, leap and effortless twist.
