Kenny Omega Suffers Nasty Injury During Today’s G1 Climax Event (Warning: Graphic Video)
IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega suffered a graphic injury towards the end of his match with Tomohiro Ishii today in Osaka, Japan that will most likely require stitches.
The “Stone Pitbull” actually won the bout with a lariat and his signature Brainbuster, ending the champ’s undefeated streak in this year’s NJPW G1 Climax tournament. It appears that the actual injury came from the final lariat, busting Omega’s lip open.
Immediately after the finish he rolled to the side of the ring where the referee checked on him, and then quickly made his way to the back. While it’s hard to see in the rather graphic image below, there was a brief moment where a chunk of his lip was actually hanging from his mouth.
Omega is scheduled for tag team action Sunday afternoon in Osaka, teaming with Chase Owens to take on Toru Yano and Gedo from the Chaos faction. Luckily his next big singles bout in the tournament isn’t until next Wednesday at the historic Budokan in Tokyo. He’ll wrap up the G1 with the A Block finals on 8/11, facing his best friend and tag team partner Kota Ibushi, followed by the G1 Finals on 8/12.
