Over one week after Meghan Markle celebrated her 38th birthday on August 4, The Sun has reported the royal spent the occasion holidaying in Ibiza.
Interestingly, the publication originally reported that the new mum was opting for a low-key celebration following the public upset over the extravagance of her baby shower co-hosted by Amal Clooney, and planned to join The Queen at her Balmoral holiday home for a birthday tea.
“The Clooney clan will be in Villa Oleandra on Lake Como and the Sussexes will not want to be seen enjoying more of their lavish hospitality after the PR disaster backlash post the US baby shower,” The Sun reported a source told Fabulous Digital.
While at this stage, we are yet to find out whether or not Markle joined Her Majesty in Scotland, what we do know is that The Sun is reporting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, together with Master Archie, did board a private jet to Ibiza for a six-day Mediterranean escape.
The sun-soaked holiday marks three-month-old Archie’s first trip abroad, with his second set to take place in October, when the young family head to Africa for an official royal tour.
“No images have emerged of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Archie, who stayed at a villa well away from the cameras,” reported The Majorca Daily Bulletin, per The Sun. “They travelled with security personnel, and it is reported that local security forces were not needed.”
If Misha Nonoo’s Instagram posts are anything to go by, this isn’t Markle’s first time visiting the Balearic island. In 2016, the designer shared an image from Ibiza, which pictures Markle sunbathing with Nonno and a third friend.
According to Vanity Fair, the duchess also celebrated her 38th birthday with a carrot cake, which just so happens to be one of her favourite sweets. Per the publication, Good Morning America joined London bakery Luminary as they prepared the cake.
“When I applied for this job I did not expect that I’d be making a cake for Duchess Meghan Markle,” said employee Caoimhe Bennett. The cake was reportedly decorated with dried orange slices and sprigs of rosemary, and it read “Happy Birthday, Meghan!”
