Kenny Omega Talks WWE and His Role as IWGP Champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling

Kenny Omega is the current IWGP champion and one of the top performers in the pro wrestling industry. The Canadian born star has truly arrived as a main event powerhouse and his matches over the past year have made headlines all over the world.

But what are the chances that Omega would return to WWE? Kenny’s first time through Vince McMahon’s company wasn’t exactly a Hall of Fame run. But fans have speculated over the past year about whether or not “The Cleaner” will eventually make the jump from NJPW to WWE.

Omega recently spoke to The Business Times about that very topic.

“It’s a tough question. It’s not just about the money. It’s about having the creative outlet.”

Omega also spoke about his role as the IWGP champion, including the changes he brought to New Japan Pro Wrestling.

“I am sort of very much a part of representing an alternative. If my motivation was money, I would already be in the WWE. I was down on the current product and I wanted to create a style and have matches that my friends, my family and other athletes could watch and enjoy. There’s a certain kind of of wrestling fan that will only like a certain style. They think that’s the right way and that’s okay but I’m not trying to impress those people. Those people are already kind of set in their ways. I’m trying to open the world to a different style, what pro-wrestling has the potential to be.”

Omega’s storyline in NJPW over the past several months has centered on his leadership of The Bullet Club. The wildly popular faction was splintered with the arrival of Cody Rhodes, who challenged the group’s status quo. Rhodes and Omega had major problems over the situation but they have since become allies.

Omega’s reunion with Kota Ibushi as The Golden Lovers continues to be his primary direction in New Japan. The two are not only working together, but Ibushi has also been embraced by The Bullet Club as well. The same has not held true for Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa and Bad Luck Fale however. The trio currently runs in direct opposition to Omega and anyone else that claims The Bullet Club moniker.
