Man Utd midfielder Fred claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side “got better and better” during a “great season” for the club.

The Red Devils finished second in the Premier League, qualifying for next season’s Champions League, while they also reached the Europa League final where they lost to Villarreal on penalties.

Man Utd only won three of their final nine matches in all competitions despite their definite Premier League improvement throughout the season.

England have seven CL finalists; what a ‘nightmare’

Many fans will feel disappointed that the club didn’t win some silverware this season with Solskjaer still looking for his first trophy as Man Utd boss.

But Fred thinks the Red Devils still had a “great season”, Fred told United’s official website: “Definitely, for me the team’s done really well and been growing over the season.

“We didn’t start that well as we didn’t have a pre-season. We had the Europa League semi-final which prolonged last season.

“We didn’t have a pre-season and got better and better over the season and reached the final.

“I think overall the team’s had a great season, we could have achieved more, we wanted to win more trophies, but I think generally it’s been a great season.”

Fred started more Premier League matches this term (27) than in any other season at Man Utd since joining from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.

“It’s really important to me to be starting in games, to be in the XI,” Fred added.

“I’ve played and started in a lot of games this season. I’m really happy with this, happy to have been in good form and having a great season together with the entire team.

“As I’ve already said, I want much more, more trophies with United, I want to achieve a lot here and I’m sure there’s a lot more to come.”

On his best moment of the season, Fred continued: “My goal against Tottenham of course. It was a very important goal for me and I think it was important for the team as well as it started the comeback. It was one of the most memorable moments of the season until now.”
