Lili Reinhart publicly declared her love for Cole Sprouse on his birthday

Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse’s couple status just took a definite turn towards “in a relationship” after Reinhart posted a “sappy” love poem to Sprouse for his birthday on her Instagram account.

The couple, who reportedly started dating in 2017 after meeting on the set of their hit teen show, have been the subject of split rumours for a couple of weeks now after it was reported on Monday July 22 by a number of US publications that “multiple sources” close to the couple said they had broken up and were no longer living together.

Neither Reinhart, 22, or Sprouse, 27, commented on the split rumours at first, until a joint cover interview they had done with W Magazine was released a few days later. 

The interview fuelled the split rumours because, according to the journalist who wrote the story, the co-stars had requested to be interviewed separately. Sprouse did explain the request in the interview as simply because the actors want to be seen as their “own separate identities” not a package deal, but following the rumoured break up, the internet assumed it was true.

However, in a plot twist that could have come straight from the show they co-star on as Betty and Jughead (or Bughead as they’re affectionately known), the couple both took to Instagram to post about the W Magazine interview’s suggestion that they were broken up. But, their posts were so cryptic, in the best possible dramatic Hollywood way, it was unclear whether they were confirming the rumoured split or confirming they were still together.

Reinhart posted: “BREAKING: A reliable source has confirmed that none of you know shit.” While Sprouse posted: “UNPRECEDENTED: Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart consume the flesh of ‘reliable sources’ to fuel their bacchanalian sex cult.” So far, so unclear.

But, over the weekend, Reinhart took to Instagram to share a love poem to Sprouse for his birthday that appears to confirm their status as: in a relationship. 

“I tried to find a poem that I could send to you. Because my words were failing me. But I searched and found nothing that did you justice. All of these love poems can’t get it right. No one else’s words could ever fit. They haven’t known the fortune it is to love. -sappy nighttime birthday poem for @colesprouse,” Reinhart wrote alongside a picture of Sprouse. A poem for an ex? Or a poem for a current love? It seems the latter.
