The L.A house Meghan Markle shared with her ex-husband is for sale

When Meghan Markle landed her role on hit TV show Suits, she was married to LA-based film director and producer Trevor Engelson. Their union lasted from 2011 to 2013, when they divorced citing irreconcilable differences. Sources said it was because their long-distance relationship became too hard; Markle was living in Toronto where Suits is filmed, while Engelson stayed in Los Angeles.

However, there’s no doubt that Markle put in plenty of time at the two-story colonial house the couple shared in the buzzy area of Hancock Park (close to Hollywood, Melrose and Fairfax). The white cabinetry, marble countertops and natural light have Meghan’s style stamped all over them – in fact, the house would not look out of place on the pages of The Tig, the now-closed lifestyle blog Markle owned and operated from 2014 until 2017.

A working fireplace is the centerpiece of the living room.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom house Markle and Engelson shared on Highland Avenue has just been listed for sale on homes.com with an asking price of $2.66 million. The real estate blurb mentions the property’s royal connections in the opening sentence: “Meghan Markle’s former Hancock Park home!” (Though judging by the exclamation points, the copywriter is equally excited about “Abundant off-street parking!”)

The house has hardwood floors throughout.

Rumour has it that the Duchess and Prince Harry are currently house-hunting for a place in Los Angeles, as Markle is a California girl at heart and wants to have a home base close to her mum. And while $2.66 million is a respectable sum of money to spend on a house, it’s probably a little cheap for the newly minted royal family of three (who are hoping to become four) – as their renovations to Frogmore Cottage earlier this year cost a casual $4.4 million.

The master bedroom on the second floor receives ample natural light.

Other impediments to the Sussexes purchasing this particularly piece of property (besides the bad karma from Meghan’s ex) are that it would be hard to secure, the road gets a lot of traffic, and the house may lack the history and gravitas required by members of the British aristocracy – it was built in 1924, while Frogmore Cottage has been a royal residence for hundreds of years.
