Everton stun bitter Premier League rivals with £27.5m bid

Everton have made a £27.5m bid for Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The Toffees have signed four players so far this summer, with free agent Jonas Lossl and £22m addition Andres Gomes joined by f***ing sensible Fabian Delph and £25m midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

That last signing was seemingly made to immediately replace Idrissa Gueye, with Gbamin moving to Goodison Park in the same week Gueye left for PSG.

But L’Equipe suggest Doucoure has instead been identified as the Senegalese’s ‘successor’.

The midfielder ‘would be tempted by a new challenge and the idea of joining the Toffees would not displease him,’ which certainly helps.

Watford will demand at least £36.6m to do business, with the early transfer window closure, the nature of selling to a direct rival and reported interest from across Europe instructing their valuation.

Yet even that might not be enough. L’Equipe suggest the move will ‘accelerate’ over the next few days, but Watford are happy to keep the player and their relationship with Everton was soured by their pursuit of Marco Silva.

The Hornets could use the proceeds to finally bring in Ismaila Sarr from Rennes, but it seems unlikely.
