Chelsea centre back Fikayo Tomori is set to travel to Italy to complete his loan move to AC Milan, according to reports.

The defender came through the ranks with the Blues. He made his senior debut as a substitute in their final game of the 2015/16 Premier League season.

Tomori has previously had loan spells with Brighton and Hull City. But he enjoyed his breakout season in 2018/19 with Derby County under Frank Lampard.

Early winner: Mason Mount, keeping Lampard in Chelsea hot seat

He and Mason Mount shone for the Rams as they earned a place in the Championship play-offs. Tomori made 55 appearances and he was named their Player of the Year.

Lampard took over as Chelsea manager ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. Tomori was immediately inserted into the first-team fold for the Blues as he made 22 appearances in all competitions.

But the defender failed to make an appearance in any of Chelsea’s final ten Premier League games. He was linked with a move away in the summer.

Tomori was set to join West Ham on loan, but that deal fell through. He instead remained at the Blues, but he has only appeared four times this season.

A number of clubs have been linked with him, but AC Milan have won the race to sign him. Football insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that his six-month loan move will be completed next week.

Romano also states that Tomori will travel to Italy “imminently” to complete the deal. The report adds that AC Milan will have an option to buy Tomori this summer for around €30m.
