Premier League sides Leicester City and Southampton have joined AC Milan in the race to sign Mattias Svanberg, according to reports.

Svanberg is enjoying a great season in the Italian top flight with current club Bologna.

His breakthrough has now sparked interest from across Europe.

According to sources in Italy (via Leicester Mercury), the Foxes and Saints want to sign Svanberg to bolster their respective squads.

Svanberg is an exciting midfielder who can provide goals and assists going forward.

He is also versatile, having played on both wings during his time with Malmo.

Leicester and Southampton will have to beat AC Milan if they want to sign the 22-year-old.

The Italian giants are thought to be keen admirers of Svanberg. He made a brief appearance against them in the first Serie A fixture back in September.

Svanberg has registered two goals and one assist in 15 matches for Bologna this term.

He’s helped to provide stability in their central midfield.

The player could be an effective option to link up with Youri Tielemans in Leicester’s first team.

Manager Brendan Rodgers can also rely on Wilfred Ndidi and Dennis Praet in that position. Adding an extra option to the midfield would help Leicester in their pursuit of European football.

Hamza Choudhury could exit the King Power Stadium this month. The 23-year-old has been linked with a loan move to either Newcastle or West Brom.

Alternatively, Svanberg could replace James Ward-Prowse at Southampton, if the Englishman makes a big money move to Tottenham.

Southampton’s next match is against Leicester this Saturday at 20:00. Both sides will be hoping to move up the Premier League table.
