Arsenal prepared to recall Guendouzi from Hertha Berlin loan

Arsenal will reportedly recall Matteo Guendouzi this month from his loan spell in Germany.

The midfielder joined Hertha Berlin at the start of October after seeing his game time reduced at the Emirates.

He’s since made ten appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring two goals and assisting one more.

According to German outlet BILD (via talkSPORT), Arsenal now want to bring Guendouzi back to North London in January.

It’s not yet known whether this is to give him Premier League opportunities once again or to sell him during the transfer window.

Guendouzi’s Arsenal career looked to be over last year following his behaviour in a 2-1 loss at Brighton.

That led to manager Mikel Arteta sidelining the 21-year-old. He subsequently failed to make his way back into the team and left.

Hertha snapped up Guendouzi to give him another chance to impress.

Since recovering from coronavirus, the Frenchman has become an important player in their midfield.

He even scored in the recent 3-0 victory over Schalke.

Before his poor showing against Brighton, Guendouzi’s excellent development had seen him linked with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Their interest is long gone, however. Arsenal could be willing to sell the player to raise transfer funds for their January pursuits.

They’ve been linked with a new attacking midfielder, mainly Norwich’s Emi Buendia and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

Those two are on our list of five potential players who could replace Mesut Ozil at the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have already signed their first player of the January transfer window.

Young defender Omar Rekik joined from Hertha in a £500,000 deal last week.

The transfer is believed to be separate from Guendouzi’s loan deal.

It could signal the start of a busy month for Arteta and technical director Edu.
