Smackdown Rating: On eve of Independence Day, built around Team Hell No reuniting, viewership down but still finishes among top of cable Tuesday night

The July 3 episode of WWE Smackdown Live on USA Network drew a 1.45 rating, down from the 1.54 last week and 1.63 two weeks ago. It’s also below the year-ago rating of 1.59 and the two years ago rating of 1.62. The ten week rolling average headed into this week was 1.65. The 2017 average rating so far is 1.75.
Total viewership was 2.013 million, about 122,000 below last week and 202,000 below two weeks ago.
The rating came on the eve of Independence Day in the United States, which might have affected viewership adversely. The show was built around the reuniting of Daniel Bryan and Kane, known as Team Hell No.
Other than political news shows on MSNBC and Fox News, no other cable show drew more viewers, although FS1’s World Cup match-up between Sweden and Switzerland drew a higher rating among the key adult 18-49 demographic. Smackdown was the no. 2 show on all of cable in the key adult demo.
Among all cable shows for the entire week of June 25-July 1, Smackdown finished no. 10 in the key 18-49 demo. Each hour of Raw, by comparison, finished in spots no. 2, 4, and 5.
