BRENTWOOD, CA — A Brentwood man had an unexpected — and definitely unwanted — houseguest overnight when a mountain lion broke through a glass window and wandered around his home. William Nichols told reporters he “heard this great crash of glass and a big noise in the living room, and he had jumped through the plate glass next to the front door.”

He went to investigate and was shocked to find the big cat standing in his house.

“He hunkered back and made a noise which I didn’t care for,” Nichols said. “And so I left, retreated.”

Nichols said he backed away and called 911. Police said they responded around 11:45 p.m. to the 1800 block of Old Ranch Road, originally due to calls from neighbors who said the animal was in the backyard of the home.

One neighbor told KCAL9 that there had been reports in recent days about a bobcat roaming the area.

But Nichols said the intruder in his home wasn’t a bobcat.

“At first I thought it was a bobcat, but then I got a full view of him,” he told reporters. “And he was all tan. He didn’t have … the markings (of a bobcat) and (was) much, much bigger than the bobcat.”

Nichols said the animal was pacing inside his home, and “I could hear him every once in a while up in the kitchen area.”

But the cat eventually found another way out, crashing through a different window and retreating back into the hills.
