PARKLAND, FL — Marjory Stoneman Douglas comfort dogs fetched their own page in the school’s yearbook this year as a thank you for helping grieving students overcome anxiety stemming from the February 2018 mass shooting that claimed the lives of 17 students and faculty members.

The page has drawn national attention since the staff of the Aerie Yearbook shared it on social media with the caption: “We’ve included these cuties in the yearbook.”

Comfort dogs have been a constant presence for Parkland students since a local pastor invited Sharon Flaherty to bring Jacob, a comfort dog, to a community memorial service one day after the tragedy.

The golden retriever immediately drew a crowd of children and adults alike.

“Nobody can pet a dog without smiling,” Flaherty of the Chicago area told Patch at the time. “It’s that simple.”

More dogs were on the way, she promised.
