31 of our favourite places to visit in Paris

Paris is a forever city. A place you can visit over and over, with each subsequent trip revealing something previously unseen about the magical French capital. It’s also arguably one of the world’s most beautifully designed cities, its famous streets perfectly primed for wandering down back alleys and getting lost in tiny boutiques. In fact, the French invented a term for a person who excels at this kind of aimless meandering – le flâneur – which translates to a stroller or saunterer.

If, like us, walking the boulevards of Paris is your preferred mode of transport, then you’ll probably enjoy a stroll in the chic and popular areas like the Marais, Montmartre and the Latin Quarter. Looking to snap some classic tourist shots? Head to the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe or what’s left of the Notre-Dame cathedral. And then there are the museums – the Louvre’s glass pyramid may be catnip for first-timers, but it’s worth deep diving into the Musée Rodin, Musée Picasso and Musée des Arts Décoratifs – the latter is especially great for ardent fashion admirers.

Of course, the beauty of Paris is such that you need not look very far for examples of iconic Haussmanian architecture – there’s a limestone building literally on every street corner. And considering that Paris has 37 bridges to cross, that makes for a number of great spots to gaze upon the activity along the banks of the River Seine. If you’re in the mood for something a little more obscure, take a trip to the famous flea markets (Marché aux Puces de Saint-Oue) or taxidermy shop Deyrolle. Established in 1831, the incredible store practises sustainable and responsible taxidermy and has even been the subject of a Rizzoli book. One thing’s for sure though – there’s no shortage of things to see and do in Paris. Keep scrolling to see 31 of them.
