Wednesday’s show was a relatively busy episode of WWE NXT but did very little to keep me interested in next week’s show. Zelina Vega and Aleister Black had a contract signing for Takeover: New Orleans, Shayna fought it out with Ember Moon and we got two Dusty Rhodes Classic tournament matches. We also got to see Tommaso Ciampa address the NXT Universe for the first time since his numerous assaults on Johnny Gargano. They packed a lot into one hour of programming, but at this time there’s been nothing announced for next week and I’m not sure what they have left to do on the road to WrestleMania. After six nights of action and some fairly significant upset victories, we have our semifinalists for the 2018 New Japan Cup. Juice Robinson managed to pin “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin and will now take on the ace Hiroshi Tanahashi in what could be considered the biggest match of the young star’s career. Sanada managed to get past the master trickster Toru Yano and will face Zack Sabre Jr. in the semifinals, after the British double champion defeated Kota Ibushi by referee stoppage.
